Introducing Dr Barbara Wimmer

Marinova is delighted to welcome Dr Barbara Wimmer to the position of Research Scientist.

This brief interview provides insight into Dr Wimmer’s extensive experience as a pharmacist and clinical research specialist.   

What skills do you bring to Marinova?
My background is as a clinical research specialist and Pharmacist in Charge with extensive experience in research, teaching, community and hospital pharmacies. I bring a wealth of knowledge and skills in clinical pharmacokinetics, compounding, drug information and innovative teaching and learning within pharmacy and public health settings.

Can you tell us about your expertise?
I completed a Bachelor of Pharmacy with Honours in Europe and a PhD in Australia. My expertise includes both hospital and community pharmacy experience, formulation development, overseeing pharmaceutical quality assurance programs, assessing clinical outcomes, and providing clinical advice to patients. I enjoy working collaboratively to provide excellence in health care outcomes, and have also lectured extensively in clinical pharmacokinetics.

What brought you to the Marinova team?
Marinova’s company values strongly align with my own. The company’s dedication to the advancement of human health whilst operating in a genuinely sustainably manner was highly attractive to me. I am excited about this position as it provides me the opportunity to utilise my extensive experience across the pharmaceutical industry to help drive positive health outcomes for the future. I am looking forward to contributing to new scientific studies that will support the launch of innovative new products.  

What are some of the day to day activities in your role?
Global interest in fucoidan is rapidly increasing and I am responsible for monitoring all new scientific research that is published. Interestingly, almost 3000 research papers have now being published attesting to the bioactivity of fucoidans. I also provide scientific advice to Marinova’s team and technical input to the company’s extensive R&D program.
